Guy Fawkes

November 10, 2004

For two weeks around November 5 every year, the sky above Auckland erupts in a barrage of fireworks, with rockets, mortars and roman candles whizzing around your head like angry mosquitoes.

Why? Because in 1605, some dude tried to blow up the British parliament. (He failed, but the Kiwis will celebrate anyone who gave it a go.)
