Karangahake Gorge

May 24, 2009 #

Went for a quick hike in Karangahake Gorge last weekend. It was raining more or less constantly, and it was getting very dark—to the point where we had to light our way back to the car using the display on my camera. Below, the Ohinemuri River, just before nightfall.

PhotoShelter

I’ve had a few persistent requests for the gallery section of this site: Can I make the photos bigger? Can I offer photos for sale? Can I make the gallery pages suck less in Firefox and Internet Explorer?

Yes, yes and yes: Starting now, all new photo galleries will be hosted by the good folks over at PhotoShelter.

Go on: Check it out! Browse my galleries in a browser of your choice. Click the Slideshow link for gorgeous fullscreen slideshows. And by all means, go ahead and purchase a few rights managed licenses for your commercial or editorial project.

For now, there are two galleries available. However, I’m working to move all my galleries to PhotoShelter over the next few weeks. Over time, I will also be adding lots of new content that has not yet been published anywhere. So watch this space for updates—or just subscribe to my PhotoShelter RSS feed. Did I mention they have RSS feeds?

Any comments or suggestions about the new gallery solution? I’d love to hear from you.

The Galleries section has been updated with some snapshots from Argentina. Please excuse the strong weighting towards glaciers and icebergs: They’re just irresistibly photogenic.

Autumn Lightning

Lightning-shaped features on a mountainside in Patagonia. It’s hard to get a proper sense of scale in this landscape. But yes, those are all mature trees.

Store Interior

Interior shot of a leather goods store in Palermo, Buenos Aires. The cowhides are gorgeous—but what would you do with one in New Zealand, when the Kiwis are hell-bent on carpeting every square inch of their homes?
